sick of being sick |

I've had quite a run of illness this year and I'm sick of it. The latest bug just doesn't want to shift. I woke up on Thursday feeling ick but
went to work. By lunch time it was evident I had a fever but hung in until 4pm and went home. I'm not sure which is worse, being sick at all or being
sick when I'd scheduled Friday and Monday off to do some things around the house and maybe so something nice with DS. It's clear that's not going
to happen. This is now day 4 of a fever and just feeling crap. The Dr said I should be fine by Tuesday and wrote me a certificate for my days off. I know
the boss won't be happy with that but I'm miserable so she can just deal with it.

Oh Nat, I hope this all passes soon. A lot of this could be coming out of stress. It is amazing how our body lets stress evolve!

Yep definitely the stress got my immune system down and this bug crept in. I have a bit of a recollection from my health psych days of a stressful event often
resulting in an illness about 7 days later and guess when this came on - almost 7 days exactly since my dog's surgery and possible cancer.

I hope you feel better soon Nat, are you doing yoga or any relaxation techniques to help you manage the stress, so it doesn't build up? I am about to start
another yoga course, I find it really helps me when I'm feeling that way. Just need to find one that I can do in this area, and a new babysitter. Anyway,
after my week off I'm feeling heaps better, after a series of sicknesses like you're having. Maybe a week off is in order, despite your boss.

I've never tried yoga, have tried meditation and found that awful, though truthfully it was probably the teacher.
I'm sure a week off would be great but with a week of travel next week and then another 2 weeks from that and then another 2 weeks later and all the preparation needed for that and the post travel write ups as well as all the other work I just don't see how I'm going to. At this point I don't even think I'd get through all the work if I worked 7 days a week. But that's ok because the boss thinks we're in a quiet time! I guess compared to the few weeks in the lead up to end of financial year when we were asked to do things within a week that normally take 4-6 weeks then yeah it is quiet but it's not really. I am planning a week off in September though. |

"I know the boss won't be happy with that but I'm miserable so she can just deal with it."
That surprises me when in our department we are given the advice to stay home if we "cough or sneeze" because of the swine flu! As if you would do that! But swine flu or not, your boss should support you for staying home with a fever. Unless she really wants all her staff to get the bug. It just has been a bad season for bugs too, I think. My boss just did 3 courses of antibiotics back to back because of those winter bugs. And now her daughter has swine flu, but was quarantined before she had contact with her mother. I'm lucky that I only have had this cold that's been lingering for weeks. And even luckier that Ella hasn't had anything worse than the sniffles! Hope you'll feel better soon. It sounds like you are ridiculously understaffed at work and maybe it is time for your boss to learn the hard way that she is not dealing with robots here and needs to take these normal seasonal absences into account when doing the business planning. |

Well I went to work today and started getting dirty looks the minute I started coughing. Unfortunately I couldn't stop. In the end my boss sent me home,
which is nice. But having just gone back to the Drs I now have the rest of the week off which means I'll have to go in on Saturday to get all the paperwork
for the week long work trip that I start on Sunday.

How are you feeling today Nat?

Still coughing madly and hoping I'll be well enough to travel on Sunday. I actually felt worse yesterday than I had the day before so I was really worried
I was in for a double dose but thankfully today I feel better than yesterday.

Are you sure you don't have bronchitis? |

Must be awful Nat. I really hope it clears soon.

Well I just got a call from work and I'm now no longer leaving on the work trip on Sunday, they want me to be perfectly well before I go so they're
sending someone else for the first two days and me for the remaining 3 days. So I miss out on Cairns and Rockhampton because of this stupid bloody illness

What a bummer, Nat. But when you're sick, you're sick. I'm just wondering if it may be time for antibiotics to help your body beat the bug? I'm
not a huge fan of them, but I'm always very grateful they exist when there appears to be a need to use them.

Lin is right Nat, when you are sick, you are sick. Really hope things start to get better soon. Take care of yourself and just relax a little. There are so
many more important things in life than a work trip.

Lin, it's just a virus so there's no point getting antibiotics and thankfully I'm feeling a lot better this evening so hopefully after a couple
more days I'll be feeling 100% or close to it.

I'd heard of a couple of people with bronchitis recently, so I though maybe that's what you had when you mentioned your cough.
But very glad to hear you're on the mend! |

I had my first really good night sleep last night, little or not coughing. It makes such a difference that's for sure. I think I should be right for work
tomorrow, thankfully. Then it's off travelling on Tuesday.

But good to hear you are feeling better |
